Nigerian striker Victor James Osimhen has been crowned the 2026 Milliyet Footballer of the Year in Turkey, one of the most prestigious individual awards in Turkish football.

Osimhen becomes the first Nigerian and only the fifth non-Turkish player to win the award, joining an elite list that includes Brazilian legend Alex de Souza, Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, Ecuadorian forward Enner Valencia, and Argentine striker Mauro Icardi.

Award Presentation

Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır collected the award on Osimhen’s behalf during the ceremony. The Super Eagles star is currently away on international duty with Nigeria but sent a heartfelt message of appreciation.

In his online statement, Osimhen said:

“Thank you for the award. I would like to use this opportunity to thank my club, Galatasaray, my fans, my teammates, the president, and my coach. I hope to return soon. Thank you.”

A Well-Deserved Honour

Osimhen’s recognition comes after a strong impact at Galatasaray since joining the club. Known for his power, aerial ability, and clinical finishing, the 27-year-old has quickly become a fan favourite at the Turkish giants.

This award further cements his status as one of the most influential African players currently plying his trade in Europe and highlights the growing impact of Nigerian talent on the global stage.
