What It Means for Bafana Bafana
The 60th global ranking reflects a period of steady but unspectacular results. South Africa have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup (their fourth appearance, and first since hosting in 2010), which provides a huge morale boost. However, the ranking shows there is still work to do to close the gap to the top African nations.
Hugo Broos’ side will use the remaining preparation time to improve their standing before the World Cup draw. A higher ranking would give them better seeding prospects and more favourable group positioning in North America.
Next FIFA Ranking Update: Expected on 9 June 2026.
