The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the appointment of Akeem Busari as the new Head Coach of the Flamingos, Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team.
Busari replaces Bankole Olowookere and will take charge immediately as the team prepares for the qualifiers of the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
A Significant Step-Up for Busari
Akeem Busari currently manages Pacesetter Queens FC in the Nigeria Women’s Football League. His promotion to the national team setup represents a well-deserved elevation for the young coach, who has built a strong reputation at club level for developing talented young players and playing attractive football.
The NFF believes Busari’s experience with youth development and his tactical acumen make him the ideal candidate to lead the Flamingos into a new era.
High Expectations Ahead
The Flamingos are one of Africa’s strongest U17 women’s teams and will be among the favourites to qualify for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. Busari’s first major task will be to guide Nigeria through the African qualifiers and build a competitive squad capable of making a strong impression on the global stage.
Expectations are high for the next generation of Nigerian female talent, with many hoping Busari can replicate the success of previous Flamingos teams that have reached the World Cup finals.
Backroom staff appointments, including assistant coaches and other technical personnel, are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Welcome to the National Team
The NFF congratulated Busari on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.
This appointment signals a fresh chapter for the Flamingos as they begin preparations for the 2026 U17 Women’s World Cup campaign.
