The hunt for global glory has officially kicked off! Nigeria’s U20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, have stormed into camp in Abuja to begin their final preparations for a high-stakes FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying showdown against Senegal.
With the 2026 World Cup finals set to be hosted in Poland, the Falconets are leaving nothing to chance. The team officially opened camp on Saturday, January 4, 2026, at the Westpoint Hotel, and the energy is already electric.
The Squad: 17 Stars Arrive, More En Route!
As of today, 17 players have already hit the training pitch, including the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) sensation and reigning MVP Janet Akekoromowei (popularly known as "S9"). Akekoromowei, who recently joined Bayelsa Queens, is expected to be the spearhead of Nigeria's attack after her clinical performance in the previous round against Rwanda.
Head Coach Moses Aduku has confirmed that the remaining invited players are expected to complete the roster within the next 48 hours.
The "Aduku Blueprint": Tactical Discipline
Coach Aduku isn't just looking for fitness; he’s looking for "game intelligence." Training sessions are currently focused on:
• Tactical Organization: Building a wall that Senegal can't penetrate.
• Physical Conditioning: Ensuring the girls can outlast the opposition over 90 minutes.
• Team Cohesion: Integrating new faces with the core group that dismantled Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate.
Key Fixture Dates: Save the Calendar!
Nigeria will have the "home-court advantage" first, and they are taking the battle to the fans in Oyo State.
| Match | Date | Venue |
| First Leg (Home) | Saturday, Feb 7, 2026 | Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan |
| Second Leg (Away) | Saturday, Feb 14, 2026 | Dakar, Senegal |
Why This Matters
The winner of this two-legged "West African Derby" moves into the fourth and final round of qualifiers. Only four teams from Africa will earn the right to represent the continent in Poland this September. Having reached the quarter-finals in the 2024 edition in Colombia, the Falconets are under immense pressure to not only qualify but to finally bring the trophy home to Africa.
"The target is to qualify first, then we focus on winning the World Cup. We are happy to be back." — Coach Moses Aduku
