"I'll Be There": Steven Gerrard Open to Liverpool Return but Firmly Backs Arne Slot

LIVERPOOL, UK — Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has broken his silence regarding the ongoing speculation linking him with a return to Anfield. In a "brutally honest" interview, the former captain expressed his unwavering commitment to the club while offering his full support to current head coach Arne Slot.

Speaking on the latest episode of TNT Sports' Ally’s Social Club, Gerrard addressed rumors that he could be lined up to replace Slot following an inconsistent first half of the season for the Reds.

"Any Department, Any Time"

Gerrard, who has been out of management since departing Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, made it clear that his loyalty to Liverpool transcends any specific job title.

"I’ll be brutally, brutally honest with you — I’d help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I’d help them with anything," Gerrard told host Ally McCoist. "If Liverpool need me in any department at any time, I’ll be there for them."

The comments have sparked debate among the fanbase, with some suggesting Gerrard could return in a coaching or ambassadorial capacity, while others still view him as a future managerial candidate.

Full Backing for Arne Slot

Despite his readiness to serve the club, Gerrard was quick to shut down suggestions that he is eyeing Slot’s position. The Dutch manager has faced intense scrutiny this season after a difficult autumn run and a public falling out with Mohamed Salah, though a recent six-game unbeaten streak has stabilized the ship.

"I don't want the Liverpool manager to lose his job," Gerrard emphasized. "I want Arne Slot to fix this and turn it around and make Liverpool great. I was bouncing all over the city four or five months ago when Liverpool won the league."

He added: "I’m a Liverpool fan. I want the best for Liverpool. Right now, the best thing is for the club to have stability and for Arne to succeed."

Context of the "Crisis"

The pressure on Slot intensified in November after Liverpool suffered a string of nine defeats in 12 matches. However, the Reds have since staged a resurgence, capped off by a dramatic 2-1 victory over Tottenham this past weekend.

While the club currently sits fifth in the Premier League table, they remain firmly in the hunt for Champions League qualification. The main concern for Slot now shifts from job security to squad depth, following a significant injury to record signing Alexander Isak during the win in North London.

Gerrard, meanwhile, continues to balance punditry work with his break from the dugout. While he didn't rule out a return to management elsewhere, his heart clearly remains fixed on the happenings at L4.
