Luca Zidane, the 27-year-old goalkeeper and son of French football legend Zinedine Zidane, has officially switched his international allegiance from France to Algeria. The move was approved by FIFA on Friday, making him eligible to represent the North African nation.
While Luca had previously played for France's youth teams, from U-16 to U-20, he never earned a senior cap, which allowed him to make the change. He qualifies for the Algerian national team through his paternal grandparents, who hailed from the Kabylie region of the country.
The decision comes as Algeria is on the brink of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, offering Luca the opportunity to follow in his father's footsteps by competing on football's biggest stage. Zidane currently plays for Spanish second-division club Granada, and his addition is expected to provide valuable depth to Algeria's goalkeeping options.
