Phenomenal Farewell: AJ Styles Reveals Official Retirement Date, Teases Final Dream Match

A former WWE Champion and one of the most decorated performers in professional wrestling is formally wrapping up his career, as AJ Styles has confirmed his plans to retire in 2026.

In an interview with *Tokyo Sports*, Styles revealed that his in-ring career will "definitely retire within the next year". The "Phenomenal One" cited his desire to maintain the quality of his performances as the main reason for his decision, stating, "I don't want to show my fans a side of me that isn't AJ Styles". He is choosing to step away "before my body can no longer move".

While his in-ring days are numbered, Styles suggested he will "probably work for WWE" after retirement, potentially training young wrestlers to be worthy of the main roster.

The announcement comes after Styles suggested that WWE's upcoming Supershow Japan event in Tokyo will likely be his final appearance in Japan. He also commented on his longtime NJPW rival, Hiroshi Tanahashi, who is also set to retire in 2026. When asked about one last match against Tanahashi, Styles did not shut down the idea, saying, "I still want to do it 1000%".

In the meantime, Styles will face one last opponent from his storied WWE rivalry, as he is scheduled to wrestle John Cena as part of the latter's own retirement tour at WWE Crown Jewel.
