Liverpool's perfect start to the Premier League season continued with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over rivals Everton at Anfield, extending their flawless record to five wins from five matches. While the Merseyside derby was a subdued affair, the champions did just enough to secure the win.
The Reds took control in the first half with goals from Gravenberch, who also assisted Ekitike for the second. Despite Liverpool stepping off the gas after the break, Everton's comeback attempt fell short, with Gueye's fine finish being their only reward.
The win marks a historic achievement for Liverpool, who have now won their opening five top-flight matches for only the fifth time in their history (following the 1978-79, 1990-91, 2018-19, and 2019-20 seasons). The result also maintains David Moyes' winless streak at Anfield, as the Everton boss remains without a Premier League victory in 21 attempts at the ground. This victory is also the second time Liverpool has won five consecutive home games against Everton in all competitions.
Next up, Liverpool will face Southampton at home on Tuesday, while Everton will visit Wolves in the EFL Cup.
