BREAKING: Brescia Stripped of Professional Status After 114 Years

In a dramatic and melancholy development, Italy’s Football Federation (FIGC) has revoked the professional status and national license of historic club Brescia Calcio, officially barring them from participation in the 2025–26 Serie C season .

Founded in 1911, the Lombardy-based club has endured for 114 years, producing some of football’s greatest names—from Roberto Baggio and Andrea Pirlo to Pep Guardiola and Mario Balotelli. They spent 23 seasons in Serie A, with their final campaign coming in 2019–20.

The FIGC cited a litany of financial violations: a failure to settle debts totaling over €1.1 million by January, non-payment of staff and players for March and April 2025, and continued defaults on salary obligations with a June 6 deadline missed.

This decision follows earlier drama: a 4-point deduction in Serie B due to irregularities—including submission of fake credit notes related to wage payments—dropped Brescia into the relegation zone, sealing its descent.

While the club sought appeals in sporting and legal tribunals, including CONI, those efforts proved unsuccessful. The FIGC formally denied the Serie C license on July 3, confirming Brescia’s removal from professional football. With bankruptcy looming and no license in hand, the club "as we knew it" is expected to vanish, or potentially restart at amateur level (Serie D) if financially viable.

What Happens Next?

  • Current club entity ceases to exist in the professional structure.

  • Restart possible: A phoenix club could be formed, but only at Serie D or lower.

  • Legacy lies in history: Brescia will be remembered for producing top talent and withstanding over a century of Italian football.

After over a century of tradition and moments of brilliance, Brescia Calcio has been formally expelled from professional football. Its license revoked today marks the end of an era—and a stark warning about financial governance in modern sport.

Stay tuned for updates regarding any phoenix club initiatives or legal appeals that could shape Brescia’s future.
