Portugal Crowned UEFA Nations League Champions After Penalty Shootout Victory Over Spain

Portugal have been crowned UEFA Nations League champions for the second time, defeating Spain 5-3 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Spain opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Martín Zubimendi, but Portugal responded just six minutes later with a header from Nuno Mendes. Just before halftime, Mikel Oyarzabal restored Spain’s lead, making it 2-1.

In the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo, at 40 years old, struck in the 61st minute to level the game 2-2, setting up a tense finish that eventually went to extra time and penalties.

In the shootout, Portugal were perfect, converting all five of their penalties, while Spain missed one. The final shootout score was 5-3, sealing Portugal’s triumph.

This victory marks Portugal’s second UEFA Nations League title, following their win in the inaugural edition in 2019. It also adds another chapter to Cristiano Ronaldo’s legendary career, as he leads his nation to yet another major international honour.
