Ofili, who hit the 100m qualification standard for the Paris 2024 Olympics, was once again left out of Nigeria’s Olympic team due to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) failing to properly submit her entry. This marks the second time the 21-year-old has missed an Olympic Games—not due to injury or form, but due to federation mishandling.
In 2021, she was also prevented from competing in the 200m event at the Tokyo Olympics after the AFN and Nigeria’s Anti-Doping Commission failed to complete her testing requirements in time. That costly oversight affected a total of 14 Nigerian athletes, drawing global criticism.
According to journalist kayraynor, Ofili expressed her grievances directly to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). On May 31st, 2025, she formally began the process of switching nationalities, citing neglect, lost opportunities, and a lack of faith in the current system as her reasons.
Ironically, the same AFN leadership accused of past failings was re-elected in June 2025, sealing Ofili’s decision to walk away from Nigerian representation.
Now cleared to represent Turkey, Ofili is expected to feature at Paris 2024 under her new flag—a bittersweet outcome for an athlete who once proudly flew Nigeria’s colors.
