Asante Kotoko Crowned Champions with 2–1 Triumph Over Golden Kick in MTN FA Cup Final

In a pulsating showdown at the University of Ghana Stadium on June 15, Asante Kotoko clinched a dramatic 2–1 victory over underdogs Golden Kick SC to lift their 10th MTN FA Cup title.

The Porcupine Warriors drew first blood in the 17th minute when Kwame Opoku slotted home a clinical opener, terminating a set-piece move initiated by Lord Amoah’s run. Golden Kick, undeterred by the early setback, responded with flair: Bless Ege delivered a sublime free-kick in the 32nd minute, leveling the contest and injecting fresh belief.

The second half saw both teams fashioning chances, but the decisive moment arrived in the final minute of regulation time. A contentious penalty was awarded to Kotoko following a clash between Opoku and goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba. Demonstrating nerves of steel, Opoku stepped up and converted calmly to seal the victory and etch Kotoko’s name back into continental competition via a spot in the 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup.

Final Score:

Asante Kotoko 2–1 Golden Kick SC

Scorers:

  • Kwame Opoku (Kotoko) – 17' (penalty on 90+1')

  • Bless Ege (Golden Kick) – 32'

What It Means

This triumph not only reinforces Kotoko’s storied status in Ghanaian football but also marks their return to continental action, offering redemption after a turbulent league season. For Golden Kick, their brave display as a lower-division side signals a new era of competitive spirit and depth in Ghana’s domestic cups.

Congratulations to Asante Kotoko, once again lifting the MTN FA Cup and stamping their authority on Ghana’s footballing landscape.
