According to environment ministry spokesperson Ndeshipanda Hamunyela, the man was camping with a group of tourists at a tented resort when the attack occurred in the early hours of the morning. He had reportedly stepped out of his tent to use the toilet when the lion struck.
Despite efforts by other campers to scare off the animal, the victim was already dead by the time help arrived.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about human-wildlife interaction in remote safari areas, especially as tourism continues to expand into wild habitats. Authorities are investigating and are expected to issue further safety guidance for visitors to the region.
