Real Madrid Ease Past Nine-Man Sevilla as Mbappé and Bellingham Shine

Real Madrid continued their dominance over Sevilla with a 2-0 victory at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, stretching their unbeaten run against the Andalusian club to 13 matches in LaLiga. Goals from Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham secured the three points for the visitors, who capitalized on two red cards that left Sevilla with nine men for much of the match.

Early Drama and Sevilla's Struggles

The game began with controversy as Loïc Badé was shown a straight red card just 12 minutes in for a reckless challenge. Sevilla's woes deepened shortly after the interval when Romero received his marching orders, leaving the hosts with an uphill battle against a dominant Madrid side.

The loss marks Sevilla's sixth consecutive defeat this season against Spain's "big three"—Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid—mirroring a similar record from the 2022/23 season. Their inability to match up against LaLiga's elite continues to haunt them, as they remain winless in their last 13 league encounters with Real Madrid (D2, L11), a run stretching back to a 3-0 victory in September 2018.

Mbappé and Bellingham Deliver the Goods

Despite the numerical advantage, it took Real Madrid some time to break down Sevilla's deep defensive block. Eventually, Kylian Mbappé broke the deadlock with a well-taken strike, adding to his tally as the player with the most goals from outside the box in Europe’s top five leagues this season (7, tied with Lamine Yamal of Barcelona). Jude Bellingham then sealed the victory late on, netting Madrid's second to secure all three points.

The final xG stats reflected Madrid's control, with the visitors generating 2.07 xG compared to Sevilla’s mere 0.55, underlining their dominance despite Sevilla's resilient defensive effort.

What’s Next?

Real Madrid continue their title chase with momentum firmly on their side, while Sevilla are left to regroup after another fruitless outing against Spain's top clubs. With European spots slipping away, the Andalusian side must find answers quickly if they are to salvage their season.
