Everton’s struggles at home continued as they let a two-goal lead slip for the second time this season, drawing 2-2 with Ipswich Town in a dramatic Premier League clash at Goodison Park. It marks the first time in the competition’s history that Everton have failed to win back-to-back home games in which they led by two or more goals.
In what was their 300th and final 3pm Saturday kick-off at Goodison Park in the Premier League, the Toffees looked well on their way to a fitting send-off. Goals from Beto and Dwight McNeil gave them a commanding lead, and the home crowd settled in for what seemed like a comfortable afternoon.
However, Ipswich had other plans. Just before the break, Julio Enciso sparked life into the visitors with a stunning long-range strike—arguably one of the goals of the season—to halve the deficit.
The second half lacked the intensity of the first, but the Tractor Boys found a way back into the game with just over 10 minutes remaining. Omari Hutchinson made a lively run down the flank and delivered a precise cross to the back post, where substitute George Hirst arrived to tap in the equaliser.
The result is historically significant for Ipswich, who overcame a two-goal deficit in the Premier League for the first time since October 2001, when they drew 3-3 with Southampton. In terms of expected goals (xG), Ipswich edged the hosts 0.81 to 0.57, reflecting a deserved share of the spoils.
Despite an initial bounce under David Moyes in his return to the Everton dugout, the Merseyside club now have just one win in their last 10 league matches and are without a home victory in three months. The draw lifts them to 13th in the table ahead of their trip to Fulham next week, while Ipswich will host Brentford looking to build on their momentum.
