We’re in Gombe to Work for a Good Result – Maikaba

By NORBERT OKOLIE - Technical adviser of Rangers International F.C, Coach Abdul Maikaba has sounded it loud that his team was in Gombe, the Gombe state capital to work for a decent result as they are guests to the ‘Savannah Scorpions’, Gombe United in the penultimate match of NPFL 2021/2022 season inside Pantami Township Stadium, Gombe.

The vastly traveled and experienced tactician is optimistic about the outcome of the encounter even when he expects a tough and difficult match from the home side that has shown character all through the season and boasts of one of the season’s top marksmen.

“Gombe United is a very good side with quality both on the pitch and bench but after our last game which we drew at home, we have our backs against the wall and would need to react positively in this match in Gombe,” stated coach Maikaba.

He further said, “We are in Gombe to work really hard to get a good result to help in calming the nerves of our supporters and put us back in contention for a continental slot next season. My players appreciate the situation perfectly and like I said earlier, we can leave with a decent result at the end of the match.”

With three points behind third-placed Remo Stars and one point behind 4th placed Kwara United, the ‘Flying Antelopes’, Rangers International F.C with 53 points has all to play for in this fixture as the race for the ticket to represent the country in next season’s CAF Confederation cup intensifies.

In the reverse fixture on March 5, 2022, it took Chidiebere Nwobodo’s quick runs to latch onto a defense-splitting pass from Chukwuebuka Okorie to score in 49 minutes to earn all three points at stake for the Enugu side in Nnewi against the coach Aliyu Zubairu tutored side.

On current form, the home side’s form in front of their passionate fans has been terrific. Conversely, Ranger's form on the road in the second stanza of the season has left much to be desired, no thanks to injuries to key players, however, the goals drought that hit the visitors for over five matches was broken in the last match day and are hoping to build on it to get a good result from this encounter that will involve teams that have scored an almost equal number of goals this season (39 –Rangers, 38- Gombe United) but the visitors have a better defense.
