2 Days to 2022 WAFCON, See All Four NWFL Stars in the Tournament, the Countries they will be Representing

By Emmanuel Oladele - It's two days to the kickoff of the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, a tournament where 12 teams from Africa will compete for the most prestigious title in African Women's Football.

African Players who play their club football from different leagues in Africa, Europe, America, Asia and Others have been invited for the tournament. For the Nigeria topflight Women Football league, four top players in the league (Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL) have been invited for the tournament and they will be representing some top countries in the competition. Two will feature for Cameroon, while two others for Nigeria. See details below;


NWFL PLAYERS IN 2022 WAFCON

• Bawou Ange Gabrielle (Bayelsa Queens) - The Goalkeeper will feature for Cameroon Women's National Team in the tournament. Recall, Bawou Ange Gabrielle was in goal for Bayelsa Queens in the just concluded 2021/22 season of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) where she won the Best Goalkeeper of the season after the Super 6.

Brigitte Omboudou (Rivers Angels) - The Midfielder will play for the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon. Brigitte Omboudou was instrumental to Rivers Angels third place finish in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super 6 last season. The Portharcourt based team is one of the top teams in Africa Women's Football, it wasn't a surprise that the Cameronian made the national team squad.


• Gift Monday (Bayelsa Queens) - The prolific Striker will represent Nigeria Women's National Football Team in the Competition. She is arguably the best player in the Nigeria Women Football League. Gift Monday won two major awards in the just concluded season; Best Player of the Season and Top Goalscorers. She also won the player of the match in their final Super 6 game against Nasarawa Amazons, a game Bayelsa Queens won 2-1. She was instrumental to Bayelsa Queens feat in the 2021/22 season.

• Akudo Ogbonna (Edo Queens) - She's one of the solid defenders in the Nigeria Women Football League, and will feature for the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the 2022 Women AFCON. She helped her team to reach the NWFL Super 6 last season where they finished 4th on the log.

The 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations holds in Morocco from Saturday July 2 to Saturday July 23.
