Super Eagles Legend Loses Battle to Head Injury


It is a very sober day for the Nigerian footballing family as the nation has lost a former Super Eagles defender to death.

Former Super Eagles defender Yisa Sofoluwe has lost the health battle at the Intensive care unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, the 53-year-old defensive commander died of brain ailment which is known mild cerebral atrophy few days after it was announced publicly.

Yisa Sofoluwe played for Nigeria 40 times and scored one goal for the Super Eagles. He was also a regular playing member of the vintage Eagles squads which reached the finals of the 1984 and 1988 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

He operated as left-back and was widely regarded as the Dean of Defence, he also had an illustrious club career playing for some of the countries biggest clubs like 3SC, Julius Berger, Gateway United and Abiola Babes in the glorious domestic footballing era where he won two FA Cups in 1985 and 1987.

In the national team, he played alongside Henry Nwosu, Stephen Keshi, Muda Lawal, Rashidi Yekini, Temile Clement, Samuel Okwaraji, Peter Rufai, Bright Omokaro, Austine Eguavoen and many others.
