Who is Kennedy Boboye, apart from being Akwa United Boss?

By Oladele Emmanuel - Kennedy Boboye is a Nigerian well known as a football coach and manager in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), he has managed Sunshine Queen FC, Sunshine Stars FC, Abia Warriors, Plateau United, Remo Stars FC and now with Akwa United FC.

Many will not know that the lanky manager was once a footballer who player for Nigerian clubs, National team and European club.

Boboye born in 1978 started his career as a professional footballer with Sharks FC of Port-Harcourt in 1990 before joining Udoji United in 1993.

After a superb performance in club football, he was invited to the Nigeria U-23 National Team in 1995 and and played all the qualifiers for 1996 summer Olympics except for the last game of the qualifiers, with car accident injuries prevented from making the Atlanta 96 Olympics squad.
After his spell with the National Team he joined French Club Saint-Denis Saint-Leu in Paris. He was also a player for Fortuna Düsseldorf, KFC Uerdingen 05 - both in Germany before joining Manning Rangers of South Africa in 2002 and subsequently joined Dolphins (Rivers United) of Port-Harcourt in 2004 where the great attacker ended his career as a footballer.

Probably Boboye would have been recognised in Nigeria Football today in the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, Okocha and others, but the car accident injuries prevented the then super striker from reaching his peak as a footballer, but today, he's a great coach and manager, currently with Akwa United Football Club of Uyo.

On April 21, Kennedy Boboye was appointed as Interim Assistant Coach of the Nigeria National Team, following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh. He got another national team appointment in February 2019 with the Nigeria U-23 as Assistant Coach.
