Nigeria defeat Cameroon in AFCON Round of 16 clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the Round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, 3-2 it ended in favour of the Nigerian Team.

Odion Jude Ighalo opened scoring for Nigeria in the 19th minute of the first half, following an unintentional pass from Kenneth Omeruo to give Nigeria the lead. Twenty-two minutes later, Stéphane Bahoken restored parity to the Cameroonians after receiving a superb cross from Bassogog in the 41st minute of the thrilling encounter.

It was the Indomitable Lions that went into the dressing room with a 2-1 advantage, following a long ball from Cameroonians defence, well delivered by Stéphane Bahoken with a header and sent into the back of the net by Clinton Njie in the 44th minute after a superb move.

The second half resumed with a lot of excitements, but it was the Super Eagles who got the equaliser through Odion Jude Ighalo in the 63rd minute, after Ahmed Musa controlled the ball with a chest to Ighalo. The introduction of Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze also added some flair to Nigeria attack in the second half.

The moment of the game was in the 66th minutes when Alex Iwobi gained a superb through pass from Odion Jude Ighalo to give Nigeria the match winner. The Cameroonians did all they could do to get the equaliser but the Nigerian defence made it impossible.

After 90 minutes, it Nigeria 3-2 Cameroon, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the quarter-final and will play the winner of the game between Egypt and South Africa. The Quarter-final clash will hold on Wednesday, 8:00pm West Africa Standard Time (same as Nigeria Time).
