Lobi Stars of Makurdi were today defeated 1-0 by Asec Mimosas of Côte d'Ivoire in a CAF Champions League group game in Abidjan on Saturday evening. A controversial penalty kick awarded to the home team made the difference.
In the 36th of the encounter, Algeria referee Mustapha Ghorbal called for a penalty for ASEC Mimosas when an ASEC player was blocked by two Lobi's defenders inside Lobi 18-yard-box, a diving from the player made the referee adjudged the scenerio to be a foul on the player, and immediately called for a penalty, the penalty kick was well taken and converted by 30-year-old Ivorian Ahmed Hervé Diomande in the 38th minute of the first half.
The second half of the encounter ended goalless, both team now have 3 point each in group A.
