Home-based versus Foreign-Based

This topic will always resurrect anytime the Eagles fails.
The home-based players are good but they lack mental toughness needed for grade A international matches. Keshi is a special manager that showed great faith in NPFL players but he actually had the time and the energy to screen over 150players in 2012.

Recall that Keshi was able to test the players with some Afcon 2012 teams as those teams were rounding up preparations for Gabon/Equatorial Guinea 2012 such as Angola. Players like Papa Idris, Azubuike Egwekwe, Kunle Odulami, Chigozie Agbim, Reuben Gabriel, Juwon Oshaniwa, Ejike Uzoenyi, Rabiu Ali, Solomon Kwambe, Benjamin Francis, Daniel Akpeyi, Godfrey Oboabona, Izu Azuka, Sunday Mba, Gambo Mohammed and many others had opportunities.

Keshi was able to improve their game. Few like Sunday Mba, Godfrey Oboabona (Even though he was fantastic for sunshine stars as captain under Coach Gbenga Ogunbote with Semi Final finish in the Caf Champions league) were fantastic.

Others were promising e.g Gabriel Reuben, Ejike Uzoenyi (Chan MVP), Shehu Abdullahi, Solomon Kwambe. Keshi did well but a lot has changed in the local scene since then. We now have players who loves to complain about away treatment domestically and on continental duties for club and country.

We cannot compare our league with PSL because players of Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chief, Bitvest Wits, Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United don't go for vacation because of continental duties (EUROPEAN CALENDAR) and they know how to beat North Africans away with clean sheets and not to forget TP Mazembe.

We have a long way to go as PSL teams have played the Caf Champions league final thrice in the last seven years. Dean Furman was playing in the lower tier of English football before returning to South Africa last year, Andile Jali is struggling in Europe, Erasmus is yet to find his feet in France, Thulani Serero is not making progress with Ajax while Bournemouth sold Rantie but they are good in Africa because of their football system.

Oliseh came with his own and made some strange decisions like playing Paul Onobi ahead of Mikel Obi, Enyeama retired alongside Emenike while Chima Akas captained Chan Eagles to Embarrassing Elimination last year. Enough said, Etebo, Musa and many others were once home-based Egypt turned down an offer to play our home-based team in a friendly earlier this year.
