Ghana 3–1 South Korea: Black Princesses revive World Cup hopes with comeback win

Sosnowiec, Poland: Ghana’s Black Princesses bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Ecuador in emphatic fashion, defeating South Korea 3–1 in their second Group C match at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half, Ghana produced a dominant second-half display, scoring three times to secure a crucial victory and revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

The match remained goalless at half-time, but Ghana quickly changed the complexion of the contest after the restart.

Sarah Nyarko broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, converting from a pass by Agnes Yeboah to put the Black Princesses 1–0 ahead.

Ghana doubled their advantage just three minutes later when Ivy Owusu Osei found the net in the 55th minute.

South Korea attempted to respond, but Ghana continued to threaten and eventually added a third goal through Ruth Amponsah in the 84th minute, with Angelema-Judee Nlongohne Y Akanyirege providing the assist.

South Korea managed a consolation goal late in the match through Kim Min-Seo in the 63rd minute, but Ghana held firm to claim all three points.

• Ghana: Sarah Nyarko 52', Ivy Owusu Osei 55', Ruth Amponsah 84'

• South Korea: Kim Min-Seo 63'

The victory is a major boost for Ghana after their disappointing 3–0 defeat to Ecuador in their opening Group C fixture. Ecuador had beaten Ghana through goals from Rosa Flores and Domenica Arboleda, leaving the Black Princesses under pressure heading into the South Korea encounter.

South Korea, meanwhile, had entered the game with one point after drawing 1–1 with France in their opening match.

Ghana will now face France in their final Group C match on Saturday, September 12. South Korea will take on Ecuador in their final group fixture on the same day.

The result gives Ghana a valuable opportunity to fight for progression from a group that also contains Ecuador and France.
